PHOTOSTORY: Fractured lives in Rwanda

‘Fractured Lives’ is a photographic essay on the incredible stories of Rwandan people who are still working hard to rebuild their lives and their divided society 18 years after the 1994 genocide.

International Alert’s groundbreaking work in Rwanda has done what many thought impossible: bringing together all sides affected by the genocide, former enemies whose lives were shattered in those 100 days of mass killings. In this visual account, survivors, ex-combatants, ex-prisoners and youth share their powerful stories of trauma, forgiveness and hope.
