People and security in Lebanon

This animation highlights the importance of putting people’s needs at the centre of security sector reform (SSR) in Lebanon. It is based on the findings of an in-depth survey of people’s perceptions of insecurity and what they expect from security institutions in the country.

Based on the findings of this survey, five areas were selected for further study: perceptions of security threats; perceptions of security institutions; gender and SSR; perceptions of threats stemming from the presence of Syrian refugees; and civil society organisations and SSR.

The findings and results were then shared with security stakeholders, the police, army and civil society through a national conference, workshops and consultation meetings, with the aim of drafting action plans for SSR in Lebanon.
