VIDEO: Conference: People-centred approaches to SSR in Lebanon

This is a video stream of our conference, ‘People-centred approaches to security sector reform in Lebanon’, held at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut on Friday 14 November 2014.

Alert and the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies have been running a project supported by the European Union that aims to better understand the challenges facing the security sector in Lebanon. A major component of this study is based on a survey about public perceptions of security and insecurity in Lebanon, which focuses on how Lebanese citizens perceive potential threats to themselves, who they resort to in order to address such threats, and how they assess the performance of security agencies. Building on the survey, several studies were commissioned that looked at the Syrian refugee crisis, gender issues, joint efforts to reform the security sector with civil society organisations, and public relations in the security sector, among others.

The aim of this conference was to present the results of these studies and to discuss, share and debate these findings with security officials, experts and civil society activists. The event was hosted by Alert and LCPS, supported by the EU, and under the patronage of H.E. Mr Nohad Machnouk, Minister of Interior and Municipalities.
