Women and peace
Making women's voices heard in Burundi
This project supports women and their role in peacebuilding and development in Burundi and strives for women's needs and concerns to be reflected in Burundi's current Poverty Reduction Strategy.
More than a decade of violence has contributed to widespread poverty in Burundi. As the country starts to rebuild itself, we believe women can work together to influence the process and monitor steps towards peace.
We provide training, dialogue and practical activities at the community level as well as starting practical income-generation activities identified by communities to foster peace and reconciliation.
Through our dialogue work, we secured the commitment of several high-level Burundian politicians to support increased representation of women in decision-making bodies.
